Moving Forward Together

Year 6 Autumn Term 2009

Welcome back to a new school year.

The children have settled in very well and are quickly adapting to the new roles and responsibilities associated with Y6, I’m pleased with how enthusiastically they have taken this on. This term in History we will be researching information about the Indus Valley civilisation and studying John Lennon. The children will learn how to produce a multi-media presentation in I.C.T. and they are designing and making slippers in D.T. In science we will cover 4 different topics before Christmas, and in geography we investigate what is in the news.

We will do P.E. on a Monday and Tuesday and children need correct indoor and outdoor kit, including footwear, every day. Children have been provided with a homework diary, and I set 3 lots of homework a week. Part of the homework will include reading journal that the children need to keep up to date with. They will be reading a fiction book of their choice as part of this task. They will also bring home a spellings book which they will collect their spellings in. In addition many of them still need to keep on top of their times tables practise at home.

Mrs. Healey will teach the children on Thursday afternoons and Mrs. Evans will be teaching on Wednesdays.

I am very much looking forward to the coming year, we have a lot to look forward to, and I’m sure I can rely on the children to work hard and set a good example. I appreciate your support, and should you have any concerns please let me know.
