Moving Forward Together

Year 5 - Summer Term 2008

The children seemed to have a fantastic time in Devon and were a credit to the school at all times.  They are also enjoying their cycling training and joining in sensibly.  In literacy this term we will be looking at stories from other cultures, focusing on those from Bahrain.  We will also be studying older literature and writing reports and explanations.  The children will continue to develop and reinforce their maths skills in a range of topics.  Following on from our trip to Devon and our excursion to Morwellham Quay where we experienced life as a Victorian, we will be focusing on what life was like for children living in Victorian Britain in history.  In geography we will be finding out about a contrasting locality in the UK.  We hope to have good weather for our athletics, rounders and cricket in PE.  Please could you make sure that children have suitable outdoor trainers in their PE kit at all times as we hope to get outside as much as possible, weather permitting.

We will be learning about the Earth, Sun & Moon in science and after half term ‘Changing sounds’.  This will link with our DT topic making musical instruments, which will be taught by Mrs Merchant.  Mrs Merchant will also be teaching RE and CPSHE.  In art we will be learning about textiles and be making a ‘talking textile’.  In ICT we will be doing some graphical modelling and controlling devices.  Music will focus on creating a performance as a group.  Thank you for your support keeping the children organised with homework, spellings and tables.  I look forward to an enjoyable summer term and if you have any queries or concerns please do come in and see me.
