Moving Forward Together

Year 5 Autumn Term 2009

Welcome back to a new school year and to Year 5.

A very big thank you for all the lovely cards and presents I received at the end of last term.

Here is a taster of some of the topics we will be studying up until Christmas. In Literacy we will be looking at the novels of Roald Dahl as inspiration for writing our own stories. We will also focus on poetry and then myths and legends. Numeracy this term will include calculating, securing number facts and data handling. Science topics are ‘Gases Around Us’ followed by ‘Changing States’. P.E sessions are timetabled for Mondays and Thursdays focusing on tennis and dance, so please ensure your children have both indoor and outdoor kit in school. An extra sweatshirt and tracksuit trousers might be advisable when the weather starts getting colder. In our History lessons we will be finding out about life in Ancient Greece. In ICT we will be learning to use spreadsheets and in D&T we will make a moving toy with a cam mechanism.

Mrs Davies will teach Art and then Geography on Tuesday afternoons and the children will continue with their French lessons. Please help your children to secure their times tables, make sure they complete all homework set and discuss with them the books they are reading. Thank you for your continued support. Please come and see me if you have any queries or concerns. I am very much looking forward to teaching your children again this term.
