Moving Forward Together

Year 4 Autumn Term 2009

Welcome to the new school year and to Year 4.

I hope you all had an enjoyable summer.  Your children are already beginning to settle in and are adapting to the new routines.  In terms 1 and 2, Literacy will focus mainly on planning and writing stories and recounts.  In maths, the children will be working with larger numbers and learning calculation strategies.  In History, we will be looking at World War Two and in Geography we will be studying “What’s in the News” and “How do we spend our time?”.  In Science, we are learning about the human body and solids and liquids.  Music will focus on rhythms, with the class being able to participate in a choir and in Art we will be designing our own chairs.  PE this term includes swimming on a Monday and net and wall games/dance on a Thursday.  Therefore some lessons may be outside so the children will need an extra jumper and a pair of tracksuit trousers when it gets colder as well as their usual t-shirt and shorts.

In ICT, we will be looking at the key skills of word processing and in RE we will look at aspects of Islam.  French lessons will also continue this year.  The children have been given a homework diary for them to write down their tasks each day.  All homework is to be brought in on the following Monday.  Your support in this would be greatly appreciated.  I look forward to an enjoyable and successful year with your children.
