Moving Forward Together

Year 3 Autumn Term 2009

Welcome to Y3.

I hope the children are beginning to settle in.  The transition to the demands of the juniors can seem a little daunting at first, but before long everything should become a little more familiar.  Please let me know if you have any concerns.  As you know, the children will be swimming on Monday afternoons this term. PE will be on a Friday afternoon, weather permitting.  I would like to use the sports field, so please could the children be supplied with an old pair of shoes or old trainers.  Unfortunately, for safety reasons, we cannot allow soccer boots in the class lesson.  If your child is attending Y3/Y4 soccer skills, then please ensure they have appropriate warm clothing, shin pads and boots or old shoes.  It would also be useful if each child could bring in an apron for art and D&T lessons.

Our main topics this term are ‘Teeth and Healthy Eating’ in Science and ‘Invaders and Settlers’ in History, which focuses on the Celts and Roman invaders in Britain .  The children will also be asked to evaluate, design and make packaging in Design Technology this term.  Hilary Davies will be teaching the class on Wednesdays when I undertake my management and release time.  This term she will focus on Maths, English, Art, Science and Music.

In line with the school homework policy, the children will be asked to undertake about one-and-a half hours homework per week, including English, Maths, spelling and tables tasks.  Please support your children with these tasks and continue to encourage them to read daily.  Children need only to spend 20 minutes on each homework task.   I look forward to an enjoyable and productive term with Y3.
