Moving Forward Together

Year 2 Autumn Term 2009

Welcome to a new school year!

This year in Maths, Year 2 will be covering a range of areas, beginning with some work on the number system and later moving into data handling involving surveys and graphs. The children will be learning to use a number line to help them to add and take away and will be discovering tens and units to help them to order numbers. In Literacy we have begun the year with some poetry, which will be the basis of our parent’s assembly at the end of the month. After, we will be studying stories in a familiar setting and traditional stories. Our Science work is currently about Materials and will move into Electricity after the half term break. In Geography we are learning about islands, using the Katie Morag stories.

May I take this opportunity to remind you all that children will need swimming kits on Monday and PE kits on Wednesday, including pumps for outdoor games. Whilst the weather remains sunny, it is important that your child brings a hat to school for break times and wears sun cream.

If you have any problems or questions, please feel welcome to meet me before or after school, or send in a letter with your child. I am sure we will all enjoy the challenges to come this year.
