Moving Forward Together

Early Years Autumn Term 2009

Early Years: Welcome to Mitton Manor School and the Early Years class

Your children are already beginning to settle well into the school routines and I am looking forward to the coming year. Our topic this term is ‘Ourselves’. We will be talking about our bodies and the five senses, as well as sharing our likes and dislikes, getting to know one another and making friends. In the term leading up to Christmas our topic will change to ‘Toys’ and learning about Advent.

The children will investigate different materials, observe how things work and begin to understand how Christians prepare and celebrate Christmas. The children may occasionally bring home their sound or number books for you to reinforce their learning. I would particularly appreciate your co-operation in helping the children practice letter and number formation. Please look and share the reading book that comes home too and put a comment in the blue book, which should be in their book bags everyday. Your support with this will be most valuable to your child’s development. PE will be on Monday and Fridays. If their PE kit is not in school, please send it in, clearly labelled – thank you. Pumps will not be necessary until the summer term. Please could you also make sure long hair is tied back on these days.

There will be a meeting for parents on 7th and 8th October to discuss your child’s progress. Please come in and sign up on the notice board outside the classroom for a suitable time slot. Please remember to let me know via the blue book about anything exciting that happens at home or your child’s interests from time to time. I will be able to issue a ‘wow’ certificate and this will enhance our home/school partnership – thank you. I appreciate that this is an emotional and exciting time for both you and your children so please contact me if you have any concerns or questions. I look forward to meeting with you shortly and to an enjoyable year with your children.
